The Four Most Important Habits to Develop as You Age

Age is Just a State of Mind

Here in Orlando, we've got an awesome atmosphere to get outside and enjoy life. And, although our bodies change as we age, here are 4 habits that will have you growing stronger and healthier with each passing year so when the great outdoors call, you are ready!

1) Focus on Nutrition

Notice we didn't say diet? Diet infers a temporary eating plan, and we want this to be a permanent way of life.

Concentrate on eating plenty of fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and lean meats. Avoid processed junk foods. Your body wants to eat fresh and natural and look fresh and natural. Consider reading about the Blue Zones, the areas of the world where people live the healthiest lives the longest. There are some great lessons about nutrition to be gained. (And they are pretty easy to make part of your daily eating habits.)

2) Drink More Water

We're sure you've heard this before but staying hydrated is vitally important. Maybe you've shirked on drinking water before, so now we're asking you to make it a priority. Eight glasses a day will keep your body hydrated, your skin glowing, and your hair and nails growing.

Optional habits: If you want to add some variety, Try adding in green tea and the occasional glass of red wine. They’re full of antioxidants that are good for your body.

3) Exercise Regularly

As we've mentioned before, the types of exercises you do should change as your body ages. Cardio is important, but so are flexibility and strength training. Your body develops different needs as we move into our 30s, 40s, and beyond, so you will need to adapt your exercise routine accordingly.

Muscle loss is inevitable if you do not take steps to build new muscle. Getting up out of chairs, off the floor, crouching down to pick up something are all things that can become challenging unless we make it a daily habit to move our bodies.

4) Think Strong

Change your mindset: Aging is not a disease. It's not something to reverse or fight off. You don't need to "look younger" or "reverse time" but instead embrace yourself at every stage of your life. With careful and deliberate planning, you can maintain a high quality of life for decades to come.

Remember, today is the very youngest you will be for the rest of your life!
